Early reveals about Avengers: Doomsday, slated for 18 th of December 2026, point to Shuri being the one who first detects the incursions tearing through the multiverse, a role the MCU has traditionally reserved for those it wishes to sacrifice in the end.
Marvel isn't handing out a "first to discover the apocalypse" role to a character out of favor with no reason. Early reveals about Avengers: Doomsday's plot have Shuri in that role, and if any patterns from the past are to be kept, this could be an ill omen for her chances for survival and well-being in the upcoming movie.
What's supposedly happening in the film
According to insider reporting, the movie starts with the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and Doctor Doom coming together, and Shuri is described as the one who first noticed weird things happening in the multiverse while investigating it, realizing that different universes had started colliding. She supposedly shared that discovery with Sam Wilson, Wong, Bruce Banner, and Carol Danvers by way of a holographic briefing akin to what Shang-Chi revealed in the post-credits scene, making her essentially the one to sound the alarm on the entire film's central threat.
Why "the one who discovers it" is a loaded role to be in for this franchise
The MCU has been known to kill off anyone it wanted to feature in "first to discover the big bad" role, and with a film titled Doomsday, it would be a clear sign that Shuri's tenure is coming to an end, a fate she's yet to encounter. Shuri taking the role of "first to understand and realize the true scope of the threat" fits all too well with the MCU's tendency to make that person "the one who died" and it's not a pattern limited to Marvel's Phase 4.
Why this matters for the character beyond her own arc
Actress Letitia Wright's Shuri has thus far taken on an unusually heavy role of the Black Panther in the MCU's greater narrative after taking on the role for the first time, and with Wakanda Forever's real-world relevance, it's not unlikely that her character's arc would end with her dying or becoming significantly worse-off. Having her being the one to discover the incursions, which are literally the force that would tear the entirety of the multiverse as we know it to shreds, is a fitting role for this to the character to take, rather than appear in a secondary role at the periphery of the film's larger threat.
The counterargument that bears consideration
Such deep plot reveals about a movie that is set to release so long in the future can rarely be trusted, and even if they are real, "discovers the threat" isn't necessarily a death-knell for anyone involved in the film. Marvel has been known to avert their own tendencies, and with the five Phase build-up to Secret Wars in 2027, the studio might be more interested in keeping their roster of characters alive to cross-promote and further explore the expanded reality. Whether Shuri's role this time around is a way for the MCU to kill her off, or simply give the actress an opportunity to carry a significant role in the franchise's future is something set to reveal itself in the film set for December.
